Submitted for proposal for the Broadway Corridor, as part of the Timber District Team:
For decades now, Portland has stood as a shining example of American urban revitalization. Our focus on mass transit, dense development, and high quality design is well documented, envied, and now copied. If we want to maintain our edge as urban innovators, we need to think about how developable districts such as The Broadway Corridor will allow us to continue to lead. A high density district made of wood will have benefits that reach far beyond sustainability. In addition to being seismically resilient, fire resistant, and quickly assembled, mass timber structures are beautiful and inviting. This kind of innovation will, by itself, attract visitors from across the world to see how Portland continues to innovate.
